Christmas Eve 2025
In this Christmas eve reflection, we examine what we might ask ourselves if this were our last Christmas. Click here for the recording of this 12/24 Service, and you can fast-forward to 22:13 to get to the start of the sermon.
What if this were your last Christmas?
Luke 1.38:
38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant [doule- female bond-slave] of the Lord [kurios- master]; let it be to me according to your word [rema- that which is spoke, command, mandate].”
Mary’s response to the angel
I am the bond-slave- a willful, lifelong servant
You are the master- the lifelong Lord over my life
Whatever you speak over my life is what I want
What if you knew this was your last Christmas?
You somehow knew you were going to die 1/2/26
With whom would you want to spend it?
How would you want to spend it?
What types of events or actions would be important to you?
Would you be sitting here in church right now?
Mary’s life was about to be radically altered
That’s what happens when Jesus steps into your world
He wants to take over everything
That is why many opt for cultural Christianity over biblical Christianity
We will give him Christmas eve, but not every Sunday
Not our wallet, not our tongue, not our time
Not hobbies, or relationships, or family
“I just want a little bit of Jesus…”
I don’t want him to be lord- I am lord of me
Not enough to make me love a black person, or a homosexual, or the poor, or rich, or democrats or republicans or straight people or…
I just want something to make me feel good and warm on Christmas eve… like perhaps some peppermint schnapps
If this were your last Christmas, and you were going to die 1/2/26
Jesus Christ loves you infinitely more than you will ever know
He wants to change your life for the better
He wants you to serve him, and He wants everything
If he doesn’t have all of you, he doesn’t have any of you
He wants you to contribute more than you consume
This is biblical rather than cultural Christianity
